Fauna of the environment
The diversity of habitats around the Estany de Montcortès makes it an ideal area to discover wildlife during our Horseback Riding Route , although it is not easy.
With a bit of luck, we'll be able to see wildlife, but we'll need to be quiet and wear appropriate clothing to avoid attracting attention. Pay attention to any movement among the trees or undergrowth, and keep in mind that dusk and dawn are the best times.

Mammals.
The area surrounding Lake Montcortès is home to such special mammals as the deer, the roe deer, the badger and, of course, the wild boar.
In autumn we can enjoy the spectacle of the rut, the mating season for deer.

Birds.
Every autumn and spring, massive and spectacular bird migrations are recorded cyclically, and many stop to recharge their batteries at the Estany de Montcortès.
It is also one of the few areas where it is possible to see all four species of European vultures together.

Reptiles and Amphibians.
For an inexperienced observer, amphibians and reptiles may be difficult to see; they tend to be cryptic, discreet, and rather shy.
It is common to pass by a motionless animal and notice its presence as it flees quickly to its hiding place.

Insects.
The area surrounding Lake Montcortès is one of the areas with the greatest butterfly diversity in Europe, but it is particularly vulnerable to the threat of climate change, just as the number of pollinating insects is declining .
